Another weekend passed, another Monday gone. We hope you got around to getting some pictures together to be scanned this weekend. Don’t worry - we won’t hold it against you if you didn’t. Our passion around the office is photo scanning but we also love everything else about photography. From a quick search on Google you can find how-to blogs, personal stories and best practices for when taking pictures among thousands of other subjects. We wanted to take a moment to share a few of the blogs we read on a daily basis we think go above and beyond the call of blogging.

I don’t know about you but my favorite part about winter is cozying up next to a warm fire with my family and some hot chocolate. Nothing quite beats the feeling you get knowing your loved ones are around and there’s no other place else you need to be. With the impending cold front looming over the Northeast for the next week, it looks like this is what my plans are going to be as much as possible. Who wants to be out in temperatures only hitting the teens? Not me, that’s for sure. This also brings up a great opportunity - to digitize family photos.

It’s January 13^th - we can still talk about New Year’s resolutions right? Like the one you had to digitize slides that are sitting in your basement? Has everyone already forgotten the pledges they made just 12 days ago? Don’t worry - there won’t be any judgment passed here (we’re just as guilty as the next people).

250 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day. Not to mention there are roughly 58 photos uploaded every second to Instagram. If you don’t digitize photos - you won’t be able to partake in these popular trends! It seems like every day there is a new app, program or website designed to help you share, edit and manipulate digital photos.

We are living in a digital age and preserving for the future means several things - converting negatives to digital format is just one of them. Whether you have negatives from your childhood, your parent’s collection, or a recent acquisition from the famous Beatle’s auction (shouldn’t we all be so lucky), you can convert your negatives easily at home or for larger collections, enlist the help of a negative scanning service. Bob Dylan says it well, “The times they are a changin” - you don’t want to be left behind with your memories on a medium that is no longer accessible.

Coincidentally, getting organized is found to be the second most popular New Year’s resolution - why then, you ask, is your garage and basement filled with boxes, bins, and other items you don’t recognize? Probably because most Americans’ resolutions don’t last past 6 months. This is your chance to break the mold - take your forgotten photos in the bins and boxes cluttering your home and send them to a photo scanning service. You put this organizing project off in 2012, but 2013 is a new year. This task might seem overwhelming but remember these photos are your memories - each one is just as important as the next.

Just under 15 million iPads were sold in its very first nine months on the market. Did you happen to get one of these popular tablet computers? If you haven't jumped on the bandwagon by now, I'm sure you know a friend, relative or co-worker who does. Apple designed and developed this platform for audio-visual media such as movies, games, photos and periodicals. These are fantastic mediums to use to share digital photos.

Mobile apps like Instagram and Hipstamatic have revolutionized mobile phone photography, transforming the lenses built into smart phones into retro-style cameras like the Diana, Holga and Lomo. They have not only created a unique niche of retro iPhonography but these free apps have morphed into online social communities structured around image sharing. The web site Instagram, and Hipstamatic’s site provide unique web-based sharing platforms with online albums and options for print fulfillment. Although the digital effects of these apps are unique to the mobile platform, the effect can be easily duplicated with basic knowledge of filters in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
